Will the Republicans Show Their Serious About Cutting Spending and Big Government in the New Congress?

Isn't it ironic? The Republicans ran courting the tea parties and promising less spending. However, I don't think many in the tea parties did their homework as the GOP pandered to this new bloc of American voters. The Pledge to America promised to cut spending back to 2008 levels. In 2008, federal spending added another $450 billion plus to the national debt. Obviously, the GOP has forgotten the days when a GOP Congress created surpluses.

With this in mind, the national debt is now at $13.9 trillion. We are quickly approaching the debt ceiling, which the Democrats set in 2009 at $14.3 trillion. It doesn't take long to figure out we will soon see the true colors of the GOP. Will the be champions of cutting the budget and small government, or will they give themselves the needed room to continue to grow government like they did from 2003 on?
