Republicans Giving Big Sis Janet Napolitano Ammo With Police State Campaign: "If You See Something Say Something"

Peter King, a Republican who
wants more gun control and more
Big Sis tools.
It's growing apparent today, Republicans are going to do little to fight the police state that is Janet Napolitano's Department of Homeland Security. DHS through the TSA is responsible for the naked body scans and the groping at the airports which Congress got to laugh at on Tuesday night with Obama's SOTU joke. As Napolitano sets up her big brother like video network that shoppers will soon see at places like Walmart, the Republicans are giving her ammunition to continue growing the privacy destroying, Fourth Amendment killing police state.

Now I am all for protecting our Republic from terrorism, but not at whatever cost including losing freedom. After 9/11 the federal government told us we must not sacrifice our way of life because of the terrorists, and then they began stealing our rights away from us with the passage of the Patriot Act. At first many of us may have justified the wire tapping believing they were only listening to the terrorists, but then the reports began coming out a few years ago that defined many conservatives as the terrorists.

Now we have Republican Peter King, who heads the Homeland Security Committee in the House (and has called for more gun control after the Tuscon shootings), ready to introduce a bill that is guaranteed to grow Napolitano's "if you see something, say something" program, which really conditions Americans to tell on each other. I mean, if you see Alli Babba at the airport sneaking around on his tip toes with a strange wire device strapped around him, it's common sense to go to authorities. The federal government doesn't need to spend billions of dollars creating an "if you see something, say something" grid. Americans know the dangers of 9/11, and they have reacted every time to the threat since 9/11 without government conditioning.

King has introduced the If You See Something Say Something Act of 2011.

The See Something, Say Something Act of 2011 would provide civil immunity in U.S. courts for individuals who, acting in good faith and based on objectively reasonable suspicion, report threats to appropriate law enforcement officials.

“I have long advocated for a multi-layered approach to securing our homeland,” said King. “Alert and vigilant citizens who report suspicious activity provide one critical layer. Good citizens who report suspicious activity in good faith, should not have to worry about being sued. In 2007, I pushed for a law protecting vigilant Americans from frivolous lawsuits when they report suspicious activity involving our transportation systems. The See Something, Say Something Act of 2011 extends that protection to those who report suspicious activity anywhere. This legislation would enhance the Department of Homeland Security’s national ‘See Something, Say Something’ awareness campaign.”

Why would you need civil immunity if you are reporting terrorism? What crime would it be to notify authorities if you see something suspicious? Shouldn't your identity be protected if you were to offer a tip to law enforcement that something doesn't feel right at an airport, shopping mall, or any other venue? Or will this allow the government to intimidate citizens through the use DHS and law enforcement in a similar way the Congressman Billy Long's office trumped up accusations against a blogger earlier this month sending the FBI to the blogger's house in hopes of silencing a critical blog? Do you see where I am going with this? I remind you Peter King is a Republican providing ammo to Big Sis Janet Napolitano. Just think about what immunity could bring if the government wanted to destroy the life of someone who has been critical of the government by creating bogus terrorists accusations and not requiring any repercussions to the boy that cries wolf.

Congressman Billy Long's
naked body scan leaked
by the TSA.
And by the way, look who is on the list as a co-sponsor of this bill. That's right, Billy Long himself, the same Congressman who trumped up charges against the blogger and abused federal powers to intimidate the blogger in hopes of silencing them. He now has some new "vice chairman" position on one of the Homeland Security sub-committees. Are you surprised?

Here's the list of other Congressmen that are co-sponsoring the bill with King. Notice all Republicans all giving ammo to further Janet Napolitano's next step to expand the American police state. Joining Chairman King in introducing The See Something, Say Something Act of 2011 are Rep. Dan Lungren (R-CA), Rep. Mike Rogers (R-AL), Rep. Michael T. McCaul (R-TX), Rep. Gus Bilirakis (R-FL), Rep. Candice Miller (R-MI), Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL), Rep. Pat Meehan (R-PA), Rep. Ben Quayle (R-AZ), Rep. Billy Long (R-MO), Rep. Tom Marino (R-PA), and Rep. Blake Farenthold (R-TX), all of whom serve on the Committee on Homeland Security. Also joining is Rep. Ed Royce (R-CA).

Weren't these guys elected swearing to the Tea Parties they were going to fight for the Constitution. Well they aren't stopping the naked body scans or the sexual assault by the TSA going on at airports are they? Nope, their first concern in the new Homeland Security committee is to ensure Napolitano has more tools to violate your rights with.
