Congressman Billy Long Waits for Obama's Lead to Cut Federal Spending: Long on Obama's State of the Union Address

Billy Long appears to have forgotten
why he was elected.
Looking at the Congress application on my Android, Congressman Billy Long has yet to sponsor any bill that cuts federal spending. Sure it's early and he's only been in Congress for three weeks, but here was a guy who was fed up with establishment politics and federal spending who has spent more time in front of camera and microphone coming up with clever sound bites than actually showing any type of leadership to stop this leviathan known as the federal government.

Today's front page of the Springfield News-Leader was quite revealing to me about Congressman Long's direction when it comes to cutting federal spending.

Washington -- Southwest Missouri lawmakers hope President Barack Obama will talk about ways to cut spending and reduce the federal deficit when he delivers his State of the Union speech tonight.

The issue is one that newly elected Republican Reps. Billy Long of Springfield and Vicky Hartzler of Harrisonville ran on, as did new Sen. Roy Blunt, also a Springfield Republican.

"I hope that's the main emphasis of his speech," Long said. "We've gotta start finding places to cut the spending. I hope that's job No. 1."

Do I understand this correctly? Billy Long is waiting for Obama's State of the Union speech in hopes of finding places to cut federal spending? With Obama's record of driving up deficits and his big government beliefs, I hope Billy Long isn't holding his breath tonight.

What happened to the Billy Long who was fed up? Remember that guy?

"The liberals in this country are bankrupting this nation..."

Yet Billy Long states in the Springfield News-Leader today he hopes Obama will lead tonight with Obama's plan for cutting federal spending. Wait a minute Congressman Long, the people of Southwest Missouri didn't elect "fed up" Billy Long because he was going to wait on Barack Obama to cut federal spending. They elected Billy Long because he said he as "fed up" and ready to do something about it. I find it sad, that you are hoping Obama leads tonight when a Republican majority in the House was elected to change the course Obama and the Democrats put us on.
