Does Billy Long Drop Gabrielle Giffords Name for Political Gain?: Long Never Misses a Chance to Drop Giffords Name

If you saw Billy Long speak during the campaign, you know he was light on issues but never missed a chance to drop a name. For those paying attention, Long drops Democrat Gabrielle Giffords name like he is throwing candy on a parade route since the tragic Tuscon shootings. Even in his most recent interview with Jennifer Moore of KSMU, who seems to be one of the only journalists to have Mr. Long's attention (she is cute from what I have been told), Long makes a strange comment.

Moore: “Congressman Billy Long, thank you very much. And again, congratulations on having just taken the oath of office there in Congress.”

Long: “Thank you, Jennifer. I hope the next time you have me on we can have Congresswoman Giffords alongside.

Moore: “That would be wonderful indeed. Here’s to a great Congress.”

Did Long develop some kind of deep connection with Giffords in the three days he served in Congress before the Tuscon tragedy? Does she even know who Billy Long is besides the goob in the Cowboy Hat in the freshman picture?

It appears to me, Long uses Gabrielle Giffords to gain political capital, and isn't that sad. Long even used the shootings to justify the use of FBI to track down and investigate a blogger who was critical of him, with both the FBI and the Sheriff claiming there was a lists of bloggers that were handed over to them after the shootings.

Scanning his tweets, Long still isn't brining up many issues, but he appears never to miss a chance to tweet updating us on the Tuscon tragedy. In fact, it was Long's tweets that are sent to my cell phone, even though he has blocked me from following him, that alerted me to the tragedy while I was camping in Arkansas.

Well wishes are one thing, and I agree we all should keep Congresswoman Giffords in our prayers, but wasn't Billy Long on television during the campaign "fed up" with members of Congress like Giffords?

After all Giffords voted for Obamacare, supported Obama's stimulus, and supported the bailouts. While I realize this isn't the time for politics, it still doesn't change the fact that prior to the shootings Giffords was one of those DemoRATs that engaged in wasteful federal spending that Billy Long shook his hand at claiming he was fed up, which was the theme to his campaign. Now he acts like they are best friends, dropping her name where ever he can, including mentioning a possibility that she would even think about interviewing with Long. He is clearly using Giffords and the tragedy for his own political benefit.

If Congressman Long had just closed this interview reminding Southwest Missouri to keep praying for Giffords, I wouldn't even be brining it up. Once again, it's this look at me, look at me mentality that we constantly see from Congressman Long.
