CUTS Act: Republican Kevin Brady Ready to Make Serious Cuts to the Federal Government

Some Congressmen claim they are "fed up" and then continue in the sound bites. Other Congressmen prove they are seriously fed up. While some doubts have been cast on the GOP's intentions on cutting spending leaving the Tea Party to be a little nervous, Congressman Kevin Brady has a plan that cuts federal spending deeper than the Republican's pathetic Pledge to America.

Brady introduced the CUTS Act in Congress yesterday. It cuts government spending by $153 billion dollars, which is deeper than the Pledge to America.

Many of the savings items were identified by the recent bi-partisan deficit reduction commission. They include shrinking the federal workforce by 10 percent, cutting White House and Congressional budgets, freezing pay for federal workers and Congress, selling excess federal property, cutting programs that are obsolete or duplicate others and reducing Department of Defense spending on wasteful procurement.

Unlike some Republicans who believe we can continue our military spending spree, which accounts for nearly 50% of the world's total military spending, Brady's plan also puts the Department of Defense on a diet. Kudos! Under his plan, the Department of Defense's budget would be cut by $70 billion over the next five years. While this is still a small cut, it's a start. The fact it's coming from a Republican who often takes military spending off the table when it comes to budget cuts shows Brady is one of the serious members of Congress who is truly fed up with federal spending.
