Earlier this week, Congressman Billy Long announced on Twitter he will be the Vice Chair for a Department of Homeland Security subcommittee. That has some local Ozarkers raising some eyebrows, and while this person made the comment anonymously, I suspect I may know who chimed in and called Congressman Long out.
The following statement was posted on both the Turner Report and Busplunge:
"I've worked for a member of Congress at the Capitol and I've never heard the term vice chairman for anything in either a committee or a subcommittee. You have a chair and then it's ranked on senority. So this is a rather interesting made-up term, obviously used to inflate both ego and sense of importance."
And another anonymous comment further cast doubt on Mr. Long's tweet.
I, too, been involved in government activities for many years and the above description is accurate.
I have come to the conclusion that Mr. Long would rather embelish a story when the truth would better serve him.
A strong candidate in the 2012 Primary Election has enough topics on Long's lack of the ability to do the job that people will easily rally around him or her. And, Long has not even been in ofice 30 days yet.
I'm almost to the point of feeling sorry for him. He has appointed an ag advisor to the payroll that at best mocks the agricultural community because this guy was his business pardner. The rest of his staff is struggling to identify common sense so that they can come to his rescue.
By the way, speaking of Billy Long's business partner, isn't it interesting that Long hired his auctioneer partner Bob Kollmeier to be his agriculture advisor. It appears Kollmeier indeed purchased the auction company that Billy Long called worthless without him [Billy Long] in a Joplin interview. The BillyLong.com link now delivers you to Bob Kollmeier Auctions.
Considering the great pain and amount of crying Billy Long did after winning the election, noting he was going to have to sell the auction business, is it possible a staff member's pay check from Long's congressional office budget is being used to make payments to Long for let's say "temporary ownership" for a "worthless" auction house while Long is in Congress? It'crossed my mind. I'm just saying...
