Hiking the Ozark Highlands Trail: Haw Creek Falls Area

Arkansas is one this country's best kept secret. Perhaps, the people of Arkansas might not want me broadcasting that either. It reminds me of Vermont and New Hampshire with its old mountains, beautiful lakes and streams, and diverse wildlife including bears and elk. I have been spending as much time in Arkansas as I can in recent weeks, enjoying what nature has got to offer.

Yesterday, I finally hiked a few miles of the Ozark Highlands Trail, which is modeled after the Appalachian Trail and will soon be connected to Missouri's Ozark Trail which runs from southern Missouri to the St. Louis area.

I started in the middle and hiked to a beautiful area known as Ha Creek Falls, and while the falls weren't as impressive as they are in the spring and fall, they were still beautiful dressed with a fresh winter's snow.

As well, the trek along the ridge gives view to some beautiful rock formations, which you see frequently along the trail. Here are some pictures from yesterday's 10 miles of hiking through the Ozark National Forest.
