Rand Paul's First Speech is Amazing First Speech Says Something that I Have Been Saying
Rand Paul is going to be a great US Senator. In this era of phony bi-partisanship and Republican pandering to the Tea Parties, Senator Paul speaks highly of Cassious Clay, a man who used his "venomous pen" as a weapon to fight for American principles like yours truly and many of my blogging friends who are willing to stand up against the neocon establishment. Paul delivers a beautiful speech in his first speech on the Senate floor, but I am reminded of a warning I have issued many times myself regarding making true cuts to the federal budget.
Paul has already challenged the Republican establishment to do more, and while John Boehner's minions like Billy Long brag about cutting $100 billion in federal spending rolling back federal spending to 2008 levels, levels that a Pelosi led Congress created another near half trillion in federal debt.
Paul has pushed for more spending cuts, including going as far as challenging the Republican establishment to cut military spending. Paul clearly states in the last part of his maiden speech, as he warns of compromises using Henry Clay as the example of the great compromise, that freezing spending to recent spending levels does nothing. Paul cites Obama's call to freeze spending to 2010 levels, but I am sure he believes that Beoehner's plan to roll back spending to 2008 levels doesn't go far enough either, which is something I have been quite vocal about as Republicans run around citing the Pledge to America as responsible fiscal policy. Both 2008 and 2010 carry with them a huge addition to the national debt.
The only part in this speech, which Paul hinted at with military spending cuts, is that he didn't point Boehner's plan out as well for not going far enough as he warns of the coming dangers to the United States if we continue to build massive amounts of debt.
