Tell me it isn't so? Decepticon bully/dolt Sarah Steelman who doesn't live by Ronald Reagan's 11th Commandmant (Thou shall not speak no ill will against a fellow Republican)may be the ultimate reason Jim Talent decides not to run for the US Senate seat. According to the Politico, Talent understands how Steelman dragged and destroyed Kenny Hulshof's chances to become Missouri governor by launching a negative campaign against Hulshof in the Republican primary. Taking the highroad, Talent understands the most important aspect of the 2012 election is seeing Claire McCaskill doesn't return to the Senate.
From the Politico:
But multiple Missouri sources also tell POLITICO that the early surprise entrance of former State Treasurer Sarah Steelman into the contest caught Talent off guard and forced him to rethink a run.
It's not that he doesn't believe he couldn't best Steelman in a primary -- it's whether taking up a bruising intra-party fight before a rough-and-tumble general election with Sen. Claire McCaskill would be worth the time, energy and resources.
"The primary bothers him. He saw how broke and battered [Kenny] Hulshof was in August and he doesn't want to be forced to take positions out of the mainstream," said another Missouri source who has had conversations with those close to Talent.
Steelman mounted a bruising campaign against former Rep. Hulshof in the 2008 gubernatorial primary that divided the party and ultimately lead to a double-digit general win for Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon.
It appears the party may still be divided over Steelman. Early polling shows she is the Republican that is behind McCaskill, while all the other names mentioned including Jim Talent beats Claire Mama Caskill. Seeing how early Steelman announced, she is posed to play nasty again to get what she wants. Make no doubt, the deal was made to keep her out of the Senate race against Roy Blunt, and the powers that be are driving Jim Talent in another direction. Steelman of course started playing nasty against Roy Blunt, going as far as playing the victim card, but soon the deal was made to keep her out of the 2010 US Senate GOP primary, which is why she is an eager beaver to get on the campaign trail. She is going after what has been promised to her by certain insiders, which is unfortunate because Talent is hands down the better candidate. Where as Steelman is already being described as uninspired. Of course, the short skirts did help her move up the ranks. What do you really expect from her?
