Billy Long was MIA--playing hooky during the important reading of the Constitution last week on the House floor. A possible challenger for Long's seat in 2012 has issued a statement over Long's absence last week. Will Lynch spoke about the incident on his blog, Life as a Law Student.
...I believe this is disrespectful to what the Republican leadership is trying to do. The American people have spoken, we have said that we want a return to the common sense that our founding fathers injected into our government. Speaker Boehner and others heard this call and this is a part of returning to the republic that we were created to be. By playing hooky on the first morning in office, Billy Long has made a statement regarding how he feels about what the American people want. It's a sad sight to see, and I certainly hope we can expect better from our Congressman in the future.
