LED Lights Dangerous: Push for Environmentally Friendlier Light Bulbs Has Produced Unfriendly Light Bulbs

There wasn't a lot wrong with Thomas Edison's famous invention--the basic light bulb. It worked just fine, but then the environmental wackos began pushing to make it environmentally friendly. Somehow on the road to good intentions, something went incredibly wrong.

As you know the result was the government mandating the end of the basic light bulb for those spiral bulbs that use florescent technology. Each bulb comes with an EPA warning because of the mercury levels in the bulb. No so environmentally friendly. So the push went on to LED light.

Guess what! There are now environmental warnings with the LED lights now too.

A new study from UC Irvine and UC Davis that suggests those good-for-the-environment light bulbs contain lead, arsenic and a dozen other potentially toxic and hazardous substances.

“LEDs are touted as the next generation of lighting,” said Oladele Ogunseitan, the study's author and chair of UC Irvine’s Department of Population Health and Disease Prevention. “But as we try to find better products that do not deplete energy resources or contribute to global warming, we have to be vigilant about the toxicity hazards of those marketed as replacements.”

Can't we just stick with what works? I still can't find where in a free society a government has the right to tell you what kind of light bulb you have to use anyway.
