John Boehner Sex Scandal Continues to Develop

BBCW touched on the possible John Boehner sex scandal shortly before the election. That news cooled until today. News of a possible sex scandal is back, and I can't say that I am sad considering the lack of leadership under his watch in Congress to day. After all, the Republicans don't seem to want to live up to Boehner's Pledge to America which promised $100 billion in spending cuts almost immediately (we are getting $32 billion) and of course Boehner's decision to rush the Patriot Act through Congress yesterday, where fortunately enough Republicans voted against the Speaker's wishes.

From Firedoglake:

John Boehner’s speakership in the U.S. House of Representatives might be short lived.

Boehner has been involved in extramarital affairs with at least two women, according to a new report in the National Enquirer. We don’t normally cite supermarket tabloids as primary source material. But the Enquirer was first to write about the John Edwards’ infidelity, and the newspaper proved to be right on target. And back in the early ’90s, the mainstream press picked up on the Bill Clinton/Gennifer Flowers story after it broke in a tabloid.

In Boehner’s case, the Enquirer gets into specifics–and that gives the story a ring of truth:

Capitol Hill insiders and political bloggers have been buzzing about an upcoming New York Times probe–detailing an alleged affair that the 61-year-old married father of two had with pretty Washington lobbyist LISBETH LYONS.

It doesn't stop there. There is a possible second mistress in the speaker's closet--one Leigh LaMora, pictured to the right in the National Enquirer story. She is a government affairs consultant.

The Enquirer suggests that Boehner was gambling and led her from the table he was gambling at and up a flight of stairs. (No wonder Billy Long and Boehner bonded so quickly.)

As noted, this story has been out there for some time. It will be interesting to see where it goes, especially after the Enquirer got the John Edwards affair right on. Can Boehner survive the tales of two women? He might be the Tiger Woods of Speakers, if you know what I mean.
