For the past two years, Republican politicians in and running for Congress has promised Tea Parties all over the country they were going to start to follow and protect the Constitution of the United States. Less than 60 days after they took control of the House of Representatives and made huge dents in the Senate, Republicans voted to extend the intrusive, unconstitutional powers of the Patriot Act.
Now think about that for a minute. The promised us they would start fighting for our rights, freedoms, and liberties, and then almost immediately betrayed us like a bunch of Benedict Arnolds running around in Washington.
Isn't it sad that in 2011, with so much focus being placed on the loss of liberties surrounding Obamacare, the Republicans have proven they aren't willing to fight for liberty and freedom either and end the Patriot Act once and for all?
There were only two Republicans in the Senate that voted against the Patriot Act. I shouldn't have to tell you Rand Paul was one of them. He was joined by one other Republican--Mike Lee of Utah. Thank you both.
Here are the US Senators that voted against the Patriot Act in the United States Senate.
Sen. Max Baucus [D, MT]
Sen. Mark Begich [D, AK]
Sen. Sherrod Brown [D, OH]
Sen. Thomas Harkin [D, IA]
Sen. Frank Lautenberg [D, NJ]
Sen. Mike Lee [R, UT]
Sen. Jeff Merkley [D, OR]
Sen. Patty Murray [D, WA]
Sen. Rand Paul [R, KY]
Sen. Bernie Sanders [I, VT]
Sen. Jon Tester [D, MT]
Sen. Tom Udall [D, NM]
Heck even socialist Bernie Sanders voted against big, intrusive government on this one.
