Babies Go To Congress: Yes, Billy Long is in Congress

How can you be mad at Congressman Billy Long for wanting to vote away your Constitutional rights on Tuesday with his vote to extend the Patriot Act when he's got babies in his office? Oh, he's such a good man to invite and hear the stories of young mothers. He cares about these babies, at least for now he does. When they are old enough to challenge the federal government, well then there's a problem and the federal government needs the Patriot Act so they can monitor these children who will grow up to be right wingers or left wingers that the Department of Homeland Security can define as a threat all so the government can wiretap and track these people with their cell phones.

What am I talking about? Long is one of a handful of Congressmen who once again ignored their enumerated powers to participate in Babies Go to Congress. In the past week, despite the fact the Constitution gives Congress no authority to participate, promote, or fund charities, Long hasn't passed up a photo opportunity to show he cares. About what, I am not sure. It's surely not about liberty and freedom considering his actions in Congress.

There is a common theme of the charities that Long continues to use his office and position to get these photo ops. While I have nothing against either the charities he has visited with, Juvenile Diabetes and Babies Go to Congress put on by Heartbeat International, there is this truth about Potomac poisoned politicians like Long. When they are doing things they don't want their constituents knowing about, like voting for the Patriot Act, extending the powers and the size of the Department of Homeland Security, or attacking the First Amendment, they quickly turn to social issues. It appears to me Long has developed "it's for the children" mentality to mask his true evils in Washington.

Washington has a history of dividing Americans with social issues like abortion, gay marriage, or whatever, when Washington doesn't want Americans paying attention to the real issues at hand. As many of you know, Billy Long is a professional poker player in the World Poker Tour, and poker players love to distract their opponents. Consider this every time Congressman Long engages in these pathos producing it's for the children photo ops. Remember, he has no Constitutional authority to do anything for any charity, and if he thinks he does, well then remember, there is a liberal who will take him up on his argument and throw money at Planned Parenthood.

Why is Billy Long running to the children right now? Could it be because he refuses to fight the Republican establishment these days as they present a petty $32 billion in spending cuts to the House floor this week when Long promised $100 billion (which is still weak)? Could it be a distraction to make you forget that Long forgot all about the Constitution and your Constitutional rights on Tuesday and voted for the Patriot Act? Long said he was fed up with how things are done in Washington DC, but he quickly drank the Potomac Poison upon landing at Reagan National.

Long told the Springfield News-Leader during his meeting with the Juvenile Diabetes organization that he couldn't drive or fly because of his broken foot. Yet, a couple days later he was on an airplane to DC. Is it Billy Long knew the votes this week in Congress were going to prove he is a political hypocrite once again. Diversion is a popular game in DC, but usually social issues and not broken feet are how they are played.

The bottom line is, if Long truly believed in the Constitution, abortion would be a states' rights issue. The best way to defeat abortion is to take it away from the federal government and let each state decide through its power in the 10th Amendment. Rather, politicians continue to use abortion as ways to divide the country, and when they push these social issues to the spotlight, it's always best to look what's going on behind the curtain.
