Billy Long's Excuse: "Because of My Broken Foot, I Wasn't Able to Fight to Cut Federal Spending"
I hear the excuse already delivered in a 2012 campaign speech. Congressman Billy Long who usually sticks his foot in his mouth will soon use the foot as an excuse for the Republicans less than stellar efforts. If you have been paying attention, House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan laid out the Republican's plan to cut spending through the end of the fiscal year by $32 billion. $32 billion, while that's not the talking point Congressman Long used during the campaign. Congressman Long promised us at least $100 billion in instant savings from Republicans during the campaign.
So how convenient is it for Long, as the Republicans fail to live up to budget-cutting expectations that he is immobile with a broken foot?
From the Springfield News-Leader:
Long said the snowy weather doesn't bother him because he has a four-wheel drive, but he can't drive now because of his foot.
"They won't let me drive in this boot, and they won't let me fly," he said.
So as the Republicans fall short of their promises, Billy Long has an excuse as to why he didn't stand up with his "fed up" attitude and challenge the Republicans to live up to their $100 billion promise from the Pledge to America. Well, I had a broken foot and couldn't fly to Washington to fight for you last year, but I am still fed up with outrageous federal spending this year... Yada, yada, yada. How convenient Mr. Long!
