Something tells me the pocket Constitutions Billy Long autographed at a recent meeting with the local Juvenile Diabetes chapter probably were supplied by the Heritage Foundation--a neocon think tank. I once admired the Heritage Foundation, but their recent article in support of the TSA's Fourth Amendment killing tactics leaves me scratching my head, but its becoming more apparent Congressman Long is going to follow the Heritage Foundation's admiration for the TSA and the Department of Homeland Security.
Congressman Long continues to tweet (a look at me tweet) that he was part of a Heritage Foundation function.
So what do I have against the Heritage Foundation anyway? Aren't they the nice people that give out Constitutions? Yes, but they don't seem very committed to protecting our rights these days. Take for instance the article "TSA Has Its Security Priorities in the Wrong Place" by Jenna Baker McNeill. The first thing McNeill says in the article is "There is absolutely nothing wrong with full-body scanners. In fact, the more we innovate and introduce new security technologies, the more we can stay one step ahead of terrorists."
Wait a minute? Does this mean McNeill believes that our founding fathers would have no problems with King George scanning their bodies to a naked image to ensure they weren't bootlegging to avoid King George's oppressive taxation on rum? I know, I know. I couldn't believe this made it on the Heritage Foundation's print, as the attack on our Fourth Amendment is obvious. It depressed me when I read it. Nothing wrong with naked full-body scanners.
Is it any wonder Congressman Long is already throwing more power at the Department of Homeland Security, co-sponsoring Peter King's "If You See Something Say Something Act of 2011." which expands the size of government, creates a video monitor network reminiscent of George Orwell's 1984, encourages a citizen snitch network, and of course gives Big Sis Janet Napolitano more power. It should also be noted it's Republicans who are secretly pushing the permanent extension of the Patriot Act through Congress, and are on pace to do so before it expires on February 28. I have not doubt Long will vote the way the establishment who pushed this through in 2001, essentially killing the Fourth Amendment. Oh, but those Billy Long autographed pocket Constitutions will make a nice addition to your scrap book! Who cares if Billy Long understands or votes to protect those words that are contained in those pocket Constitutions.
Keep an eye on Billy Long and the Republican neocons who don't want the American people to know they are getting ready to vote to make the Patriot Act permanent. It may have been Democrats like Joe Biden who drafted the Patriot Act after Oklahoma City, but it was Republicans who pushed it through Congress with the approval of George W. Bush and Attorney General John Ashcroft. (That saddens me to say that too.)
It appears to me simple favors like an advance tour of the new additions to the Reagan library has once again clouded Congressman Long's thinking. How easily this man is bought off. Remember, Long is the same Congressman who skipped the reading of the Constitution on the House floor to meet with lobbyists and a week later gave his enemies list to the FBI in hopes of silencing bloggers who are critical of the Fuhrer of Missouri 7.
After reading the Heritage Foundation's belief that naked body scanners are great, I can no longer believe the Heritage Foundation is walking the Constitutional conservative line. Of course, I never believed Billy Long was a Constitutional conservative.
