Wake up Tea Party! The Republican party is not necessarily your friend. They will use you to get elected and soon forget about you once they are elected. I know this has happened in my district where self-proclaimed Tea Partier Billy Long already has three strikes against the Constitution. First he skipped the reading of the Constitution to meet with lobbyist, then use used the FBI to intimidate a vocal critic into silence, and finally, he co-sponsored a bill that expands and gives the Department of Homeland Security, the Fourth Amendment killer, more power.
That's bad enough, but when an establishment guy like Orrin Hatch claims he is now Tea Party, well that's a path the Tea Party should be leery of. From Politico:
At first glance, Utah Sen. Orrin Hatch seems to be the ideal tea party target: He’s a 34-year Senate veteran with a history of deal cutting with Democrats who voted for the bank bailout of 2008.
But this ultimate establishment Republican is mounting perhaps the most aggressive courtship of the grass-roots movement of any sitting senator. The Hatch survival playbook for 2012 includes one-on-one meetings with tea party leaders, phone calls to key players ahead of controversial Senate votes, hours-long town halls and picnics with hundreds of activists. He’s even touting his new perch as the top Republican on the Finance Committee, saying he’d use that power to dramatically overhaul President Barack Obama’s health care and economic policies.
I shouldn't have to tell the Tea Party that Orrin Hatch is anything but Tea Party. However, I get the feeling it will be something I have to remind of consistently.
